Two men appeared in court today in connection with the disappearance of a missing school girl – with one charged with having sex with her corpse.
Paige Chivers was 15 when she vanished from the family home in Bispham, Blackpool, following an argument in August 2007.
Since that time, there have been no corroborated sightings of her and no contact with family and friends – despite numerous appeals and a long-running police investigation.
Robert Ewing, 59, was today charged with murder and intending to pervert the course of justice while 45-year-old Gareth Dewhurst was charged with assisting an offender, intending pervert the cause of justice and sexual penetration of a corpse.
Another man, 29, suspected of attempting to pervert the course of justice has been released on police bail pending further investigation.
Paige’s mother Sheila, 48, died from a heart attack six months prior to her daughter’s disappearance while her father Frank, 49, was murdered in August last year following a row at his flat.
Sean Conlon, 44, was convicted of his murder and jailed for a minimum of 15 years in January.
Both Ewing and Dewhurst have denied all charges against them.
